The History of Philosophy: A Marxist Perspective

Date: Saturday 30th October
Time: 17:15 - 19:00
Speaker: Alan Woods

Alan Woods launches his unique new book outlining the development of philosophy from the ancient Greeks, all the way through to Marx and Engels.

In this talk Alan Woods will summarise the history of philosophy, how it has advanced human thinking and understanding, and has expressed the world view of different classes and moods prevailing in society at particular times.

He will demonstrate that in this struggle of ideas, one central question has persisted: the battle between philosophical idealism and materialism. In doing so, he will show how Marxist philosophy is the culmination of this intellectual process lasting more than two thousand years, and stands firmly on the side of materialism.
