100 years ago, the workers and soldiers of Germany rose up against the Kaisers and established soviets in Berlin. But the leaders of the German revolution - Rose Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht - were assassinated and the movement was betrayed.

In this opening plenary talk, Marie Frederiksen and Rob Sewell discuss the inspiring events of the 1918 German revolution and launch two new books written to mark this anniversary: Reclaiming Rosa Luxemburg: a true revolutionary and Germany: from Revolution to Counter-Revolution.
