Latin America is a continent in turmoil. It has been the worst affected region in the world by Covid19 , in terms of people killed by the virus, but also from the point of view of its economic impact.
Before the pandemic struck there were a series of powerful revolutionary uprisings in Ecuador and Chile, challenging the whole of the capitalist system. That process was temporarily cut across by the health emergency, but is now coming back with a vengeance. We have seen the surprise election of a teacher trade unionist in Perú, a mass three-month long national stoppage in Colombia, the whole continent is seeding with discontent.
At this time it is necessary to make a balance sheet of the experience and shortcomings of the "progressive governments" a decade ago.
