A world on fire: Perspectives for revolution

Date: Saturday 24th October
Time: 17:30 - 19:00
Speaker: Fred Weston

2020 will be remembered in the history books as a decisive turning point. The coronavirus pandemic has triggered an economic collapse, the conditions for which were already brewing beneath the surface. Capitalism has now entered into freefall. We are facing a new deep depression, in which half of the world’s workforce is at imminent risk of losing their livelihood.

It should therefore come as no surprise then that millions of people are questioning the status quo like never before. Over the past year, in country after country, we have seen eruptions of popular rage across the globe; acts of de facto insurrection in the USA; and sharp struggles of the working class to overthrow rotten regimes. All of this on top of the international movements against racism, oppression, and environmental destruction.

The genie is now out of the bottle. The pandemic has shone a spotlight on all the injustices and inequalities that exist under capitalism. It is clear that there will be no returning to ‘normality’. In this session, Fred Weston discusses why we must be organised for the battles that lie ahead, as we enter into the opening chapters of the world revolution.
